The Consorci Hospitalari de Vic is a public institution created by the Decree 302/1986 of 9.9.1986. The Decree created a Board composed of 9 members, 3 appointed the Hospital de la Sta Creu of Vic and 6 by the Generalitat de Catalunya, with the mandate to give birth to a new hospital, called Hospital General de Vic (HGV). This new hospital is classified as a reference general acute hospital for the county of Osona and its primary task is providing healthcare services to the resident population. The CHV started its activity on 1 March 1987 initially in the same premises as the Hospital de la Sta.Creu, and 9 months later it moved to a new building. The Hospital General de Vic has considered from the very beginning the citizen as a client and has always tried to adapt its healthcare portofolio adapted to the resident population needs. To achieved this goal the Hospital management invest time and energy in interacting with the resident population to better understand their needs

Nowadays, the HGV is a key piece in the Osona healthcare system and has strengthened its links with the other leveles of care in the region

The Hospital General de Vic has 203 beds. In 2003 it carried 5982 surgical interventions and 42.214 out-patients consultations. In the same year 10.900 in-patients were admitted with an average lenght of stay 6.35 days. The emergency room dealt with 64.074 casualties. The complexity rating was 0.99 (acocording to the DRG-All Patients rating version 12.0). The Hospital General de Vic has 744 employees and accommodates young doctors during their specilisation studies.
